On Saturday, October 4, the Indian cricket team defeated West Indies by an innings and 140 runs to go 1-0 up in the two-match Test series at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Coming into the series just days after record ninth win in Asia Cup 2025, the Indian men’s team fully controlled the Windies side, restricting them in just three days. After posting a lead of 286 runs after declaring at 448/5 early on Day 3, the Men in Blue bundled out the visitors at 146, courtesy a four-wicket haul from Ravindra Jadeja and a three-fer from Mohammed Siraj.

For the unversed, Roston Chase-led West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first. After a dismal show with the bat, the visitors fell to the Indian pace attack after scoring just 162 runs in 44.1 overs. Mohammed Siraj was the wrecker-in-chief, picking four wickets, Jasprit Bumrah got three to his name whereas Kuldeep Yadav picked two and Washington Sundar got one.

In reply, India had a great start at the top with KL Rahul scoring his second Test hundred at home after his last came in 2016 in Chennai against England. The red-ball skipper Shubman Gill too played a key role, scoring a 100-ball 50, but fell to Roston Chase. Thereafter, wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel also scored 125 off 210 deliveries to add to the Indian scorecard. Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja too did not give much respite to the West Indies bowlers as he scored an unbeaten 104 off 176 deliveries to post 448 runs at Stumps on Day 2.

Having posted over 280-run lead till end of play on day two, India declared early on Saturday, October 4. As a result, West Indies once again took the guards in the middle, but could not prove dangerous against a top-notch side. With the fall of quick wickets, India decimated West Indies at 146 in 45.1 overs, courtesy a four-wicket haul from Ravindra Jadeja. Mohammed Siraj too picked up three key wickets, Kuldeep Yadav got two to his name whereas Washington Sundar picked one.

With a convincing win, India now stands 1-0 up in the series and will next return to the field in the second Test, scheduled to be played from October 10 to 14 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
