The Australian international cricketing calendar is in full bloom as the Indian cricket team is set to travel Down Under after the conclusion of the ongoing two-match Test series against West Indies for a white-ball series. The series is scheduled to commence from October 19 with the ODIs, followed by five T20Is which will culminate on November 8. Following the conclusion of the India series, the team from Down Under will host England for the highly-anticipated Ashes series.
But as they look to get back into the groove of Test cricket, the Australia team have been handed a massive setback as they are likely to be without their skipper and bowling all-rounder Pat Cummins. According to recent reports, Cummins is still far from regaining complete fitness and is set to miss the series opener in Perth.
Pat Cummins likely to miss Perth Test; doubtful for entire Ashes series
With the Ashes series set to commence from November 21 in Perth, the Aussie captain is expected to miss the opening game. As per Australian media, recent scans have revealed that Cummins is healing but the medical staff is being cautious about rushing his return. Seeing this, it also remains that Cummins might not be able to get fit and miss the entire series.
If reports are to be believed, Cummins underwent scans last week which revealed that he is healing but still hasn’t cleared enough to resume bowling. However, Cricket Australia have refrained from commenting on this situation, Pat Cummins was asked of the possibility of missing the Ashes last month in Brisbane. “That would be devastating. We’ll be doing everything we can to be right for that and make a few decision a little bit closer, but (I’m) confident we’ll do the rehab right and give it a good crack. This far out it’s hard to know, but we’re trying to make sure we’re doing everything right to be right for Perth,” he said.
