As the year end approaches, several T20 leagues around the world will undergo auctions to seal their squad for the upcoming editions. While the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 mini-auction is scheduled to be held on December 16 in Abu Dhabi, the first-ever Women’s Premier League (WPL) mega auction will be held on November 27 in Delhi. Apart from this, the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2026 auction is also scheduled to take place in just a few days’ time.

With the BPL 2026 auction scheduled for November 23, former Bangladesh captain and Fortune Barishal veteran, Tamim Iqbal recently came forward to confirm his decision to pull out of the upcoming edition. Additionally, Tamim Iqbal has also requested the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to exclude his name from the auctions, set to undergo this weekend.

Tamim Iqbal opts out of BPL after health struggles

Notably, Tamim Iqbal has been part of BPL ever since its inaugural edition in 2012. While he continues to remain one of the most successful batters of his time, his decision to withdraw from the upcoming edition reportedly comes following his struggles with his health. "Yes (I am not taking part in BPL) as I have requested Shahriar Nafees (BCB Cricket Operation Manager) to remove my name from players draft," Tamim said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Tamim Iqbal has been out from professional cricket since March 2024 when he suffered a heart attack while featuring in a domestic match. Since then, the batter has been focusing on his recovery. While in 2025, the Bangladesh batter showed keen interest in joining cricket administration, but pulled out after government interference.
