Former South African captain AB de Villiers named his top cricketers of the world during his interview with Beard Before Wicket podcast on YouTube. However, he unintentionally missed one of his best friends from cricket and star India batter, Virat Kohli. Notably, both Kohli and De Villiers share a great bond on and off the cricketing field. Both the players have played together for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2011 to 2021.
During his conversation with England spinner Adil Rashid in the Beard before Wicket on YouTube, AB de Villiers asked to name his best five cricket players. Replying to this, De Villiers took names of former Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis, England’s Andrew Flintoff, legendary Australian spinner Shane Warne, Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar and former Pakistani fast bowler Mohammad Asif. After De Villiers took these names, Adil Rashid immediately pointed out that he missed one name, after which the former Proteas captain instantly apologised.
Kallis is the best all-rounder or maybe the best cricketer of all time: AB de Villiers
While naming his best five cricketers of all time, AB de Villiers explained the reason for picking each player. He also hailed his country mate Jacques Kallis and named as the best all-rounder and the best cricketer of all time.
“Kallis, Flintoff, Mohammad Asif, Warne and Sachin with the crowds. The way he (Tendulkar) was received when he walked out to bat — everything would come to a standstill. Beautiful to watch him bat. Virat sorry, Sachin. That’s why such questions are so tough to answer,” De Villiers said.
“Kallis is the best all-rounder or maybe the best cricketer of all time. Asif was the best seamer I ever faced. I loved playing against Warne, but I never faced difficulty. I liked his overall personality, the floppy hat, the zinc cream, the blonde hair. Again Andrew Flintoff, who was a big-match performer. That yorker to Kallis in Edgbaston is the best I have seen," he further added.
