The Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) is back with its 11th edition, underway Down Under. While the first match saw defending champions Melbourne Renegades beat Brisbane Heat by seven wickets in a rain-marred game, the Hobart Hurricanes defeated Sydney Thunder by six wickets and Sydney Sixers beat Perth Scorchers later in the day. The first match saw Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 winner Jemimah Rodrigues feature in the game as she joined Brisbane Heat just hours prior.
However, she had a forgettable day on the field, scoring just six off nine deliveries, she made a cheeky remark on her return to Australia. Sharing a light-hearted moment with Channel 7, Rodrigues said, "I wasn't sure if Australia would allow me to cross the borders to come here after the semi-finals, but honestly, everyone's been so warm and welcoming.”
She further added, "Everyone's just so happy, in general, for the growth of women's cricket that has happened because of that win. We know that it's going to change massively, not just in India, but all over the world."
Beth Mooney brings up a witty response to Jemimah Rodrigues’ light-hearted remark
Hours later, during WBBL match number 3, which was played between Perth Scorchers and Sydney Sixers, veteran Aussie and Scorchers wicketkeeper-batter Beth Mooney dropped a hilarious response to the Indian batter’s take. During the Sixers’ run-chase of 110, Mooney quickly quipped while speaking to the commentators through stump mic stating that she feared Australia might not let them back in after that loss.
“We heard Jemi say earlier that she was worried they weren’t going to let her in the country because they beat us, but I actually thought they weren’t going to let us back in for losing. Thankfully, immigration let me in,” Mooney said.

While both players’ teams suffered a defeat in their respective opening games, the Jess Jonassen-led Brisbane Heat Women will next take on Perth Scorchers Women at the Allan Border Field on Wednesday, November 12 in match number six.
