The Indian subcontinent erupted in loud cheer and celebrations after the Women in Blue clinched their maiden ODI World Cup, beating South Africa Women by 52 runs at the DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 2. Coming into the finale after a mixed league stage, but a confident win over Australia in the semi-final, they finally rose to the occasion on Sunday.
While there were happy faces in the Indian camp, there were also tears of joy with former Indian cricketers in Jhulan Goswami, Mithali Raj and Anjum Chopra present at the venue, dignitaries and members of the Indian men’s cricket team also could not hold back as they were quick to react on India Women’s victory.

Among them was Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who took to X to congratulate the side. “A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports," he wrote.
He went onto praise the Women in Blue on Monday too, while speaking at the Emerging Science, Technology and Innovation Conclave (ESTIC) 2025. Although, the event was related to the field of science, he first acknowledged the team’s success. “This event is related to science. But first, I will talk about India’s spectacular victory in cricket. All of India is overjoyed with the success of its cricket team. This is India’s first Women’s World Cup. I congratulate our women’s cricket team. We are proud of you. Your success will inspire millions of young people across the country," he said.
