Star batter Shreyas Iyer couldn’t find a place in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup 2025 despite great performance for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025. He led from the front amassing 604 runs from 17 matches at an average of 50.33 and a strike rate of 175.07. Apart from that, Iyer has also been a key performer for India in major ICC tournaments in the last couple of years.

Despite this, Shreyas Iyer was ignored for the Asia Cup 2025 and also didn’t get a place in the list of reserve players. Although there hasn’t been any official statement from Shreyas but his Santosh Iyer expressed disappointment on his son getting snubbed from the 15-men lineup.

"I don't know what else Shreyas has to do to make it to the Indian T20 team. He has been performing so well in the IPL year after year, from Delhi Capitals to Kolkata Knight Riders to Punjab Kings, and that too as a captain. He even captained KKR to the IPL title in 2024 and led PBKS to the final this year," Santosh Iyer told Times of India.

Mera naseeb hai: Santosh Iyer reveals Shreyas Iyer’s reaction after Asia Cup 2025 squad announcement

Speaking further, Santosh Iyer also revealed how his son Shreyas Iyer reacted after the squad was announced for the Asia Cup 2025. Although Shreyas didn’t say much or blame anybody, his father feels that he is disappointed from the snub.

"I am not saying make him the Indian captain, but at least select him in the team. Even if he's left out, he never shows dissent. He'll simply say, 'Mera naseeb hai' (It's my luck; you can't do anything now). He is always cool and calm,” Santosh Iyer said.

"He doesn't blame anybody, but deep inside he must be naturally disappointed," he further added.
