England's legendary all-rounder bows out after iconic career
The England captain would have loved to end his career on a high for his national side but unfortunately they ended up losing the series 2-1 to New Zealand. He couldn’t make any notable contribution with the bat for England in the test match but the intent was there to be seen. Ben Stokes promoted himself to open the innings in the run-chase and he scored a couple of good-looking shots. The England star all-rounder picked up 6 wickets in the match including a sensational 4-wicket haul in the first innings of the game.
Ben Stokes was the captain of the England side that won its first ever 50-over World Cup title in the 2019 ICC ODI World Cup and he was awarded the Player of the Match award as well. In the 2022 ICC T20I World Cup, Ben Stokes anchored England’s run-chase with an important half-century to secure England’s second T20 World Cup title. He played one of the greatest Test match innings in cricket history. The England all-rounder scored 135 against Australia, dragging England from the brink of defeat to win the third Ashes Test alongside number eleven batter Jack Leach. Ben Stokes holds the all-time world record for hitting the most sixes in Test history with 136, surpassing his former coach Brendon McCullum.
The retirement of Ben Stokes would be the end of one of the most decorated cricketing careers. The England all-rounder has been the cornerstone for the national side in most of its championship glories and Ben Stokes will surely be missed by the cricketing world.
