CSK is set to face RR in their debut 2026 IPL season in Guwahati on March 30. The yellow team, which was referred to as the “Dads’ Army”, did a little re-shuffling this year and became the dream destination for a lot of young players. The team has been in the news for a long time because of the injuries and uncertainties of a few of its players.

However, the Chennai team has some good news for their fans as the Australian player who suffered a thumb injury earlier this year has now been cleared for fitness and will be playing for the yellow jersey now.

The Australian player in the video released by CSK’s social media channel talked about his thumb injury and how it was a little frustrating for him as it came just before the tournament. He talked about how he is slowly recovering and has been performing pretty well in the nets. Short also hopes that his thumb gets better before the first match.

Short was bought by the CSK at 1.50 Crore at the auction in 2025. However, Short isn’t the management’s first choice as the overseas player in the playing XI in the presence of Dewald Brewis, Jamie Overton and Matthew Henry. Short could be a part of the squad only as their off-spinning bowling option.

Matt talks about the professional environment at CSK

When asked about the team environment and the support staff in CSK, Short replied by saying the environment is calm and professional, and the players know what they need to do. He also talked about the support staff who have kept things relaxed. He also acknowledged the resilience of the support staff who had been in Chennai long before the players came.

Meanwhile, the CSK team flew to Guwahati to play their first match against the Rajasthan Royals. The yellow team flew without MS Dhoni, who is currently in rehab for his calf injury, which forced him to miss the first 6 matches of CSK in IPL. This would also be Ravindra Jadeja and Sanju Samson’s first match after the trade against their former teams.
