ODI innings break duration
The official duration of an ODI innings break set by the ICC is 45 minutes, from the call of time up to the game gets resumed. According to the International Cricket Council, “There shall be a 45 minute interval between innings, taken from the call of Time before the interval until the call of Play on resumption after the interval.”
Both teams as well as the officials use this time to strategise, while the ground staff uses it to check the pitch and the broadcasters run advertisements as well as analysis segments during these breaks. While the duration of the ODI games is fixed and of the same length, it could get affected during rains, scheduling issues or other important procedures.

The innings break comes off an important segment for the broadcasters as well as the experts. They generally use it for analysis, advertisements and expert discussions.
Can ODI innings break be modified?
Yes, the duration of an ODI innings break can be modified according to the game’s schedule, and other conditions. Here are the rules laid down by the ICC regarding the same.

According to the ICC, if the innings of the team batting first gets completed prior to the schedule, the interval takes place immediately. It also means that the second innings will begin correspondingly earlier. However, the only condition is that the interval should not occur more than 30 minutes earlier to the scheduled interview.

In case the innings of the team batting first is completed 30 minutes before the scheduled interval, a ten minute break would occur and the team batting second would commence its innings. The interval in such cases would occur as scheduled.

If the innings of the team batting first gets delayed or interrupted, the interval gets reduced-

If up to 15 minutes of playing time is reduced, the interval would be reduced by the amount of actual playing time lost.

In case of a delayed period of over 15 minutes, the interval would be reduced to 30 minutes.

The ICC Match Referee can also reduce the interval timings in case of any lengthy interruption.

The minimum interval should not be less than ten minutes.
4. The umpires could decide to play 15 minutes or a minimum of four overs extra time during the scheduled interval in case either of the captains request it.
