Chennai Super Kings batter Urvil Patel, who scripted history by hitting the joint-fastest fifty in the history of the IPL, opened up on the advice he received from MS Dhoni. During CSK’s clash against the Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday, May 10, Patel came in to bat at three and added his name into the league’s record books by smashing a 13-ball fifty. The 27-year-old came up with a crucial knock of 65 runs in just 23 balls and hit eight towering sixes during his knock. After the game, Patel revealed the advice he received from former CSK skipper and legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni.
Patel revealed that he talked to Dhoni after getting dismissed in two games and asked about the changes that he should do to get better. Patel revealed that the former captain advised him to faith in his skills and keep his mind clear. "When I spoke to Mahi Bhai, when I got out of two matches, we were sitting together in the dressing room - I asked him, I am getting out of two games, what should I do to convert it?,” said Patel.
“He said ‘one thing, I don't have any doubt in your skill, whatever doubt is there, it's in your mind, do just stay clear and try to hit - the right ball at the right place,” he added.
I want to dedicate it to my Papa- Urvil Patel makes emotional admission about his first fifty
The Mehsana-born cricketer made an honest and emotional admission about his first fifty and revealed that he wants to dedicate it to his father. In Sunday’s clash, right after scoring his first IPL century, Patel joined his hands in respect and took out a chit from his pocket that read, “This is for you, Papa,” followed by a line in Gujarati. Speaking about the same, Patel later revealed how his father kept his spirits high while he was not able to perform with the bat.
"First fifty is emotional, I want to dedicate to my Papa - I was getting out after good starts, my father was like - I like the way you are playing, whether you make run or not, it doesn't matter to me but just play like this, I always play for my Papa,” Patel remarked. Patel will now be in action against LSG on May 15.
