Most recently, one of the most talented, popular, successful and widely recognised names in all of Bangladesh Cricket was asked of his opinion on why his team did not participate and hence feature in what can clearly be called the biggest and most prized event in all of men’s international T20 cricket. Which happens to be the T20 World Cup 2026 event that took place largely in India as seen earlier during the winters! The person under spotlight who was asked of his valuable insights was none other than Litton Das.

Now the thing to be noted here is that one of the most pulverising, polarising, and shocking decisions that actually happened lately in the world of men’s International cricket was that of Bangladesh, not choosing to play the T20 World Cup in India, citing security concerns, and security fears for their players and talents.

Whether everyone talks about the 2012, 2014, 2016 and other several editions- one has always seen the participation of the Bangladesh men’s team in the ICC T20 events, but not this time. Not this one that happened earlier in 2026.

So asked about Bangladesh team did not choose to play the tournament which was held at different parts of India, Litton Das had the following to say-

“They told us there was no safety in that country (India). We told them, we have played in Pakistan too. They used to stand outside the room with guns. What can be more dangerous than that? If we can play in Pakistan, why not India!”

And really, it has to be wondered that when a country which is so terrorist activity riddled like Pakistan could have offered - and did offer- a reasonably safe level of security and high-level security to Bangladesh players, they why would Bangladesh not expect India to not offer the same. It simply beats the logic.

From the nature of his responses, it was quite evident and clear that someone like Litton Das himself was in favour of playing the tournament which took place in India, but contrary to his belief and opinion, his team management thought otherwise and ditto for the Cricket Board.

No, here’s a rational reason cited by Bangladesh new sources and their government stand. That explains why the men’s theme was not sent to the tournament which was hosted by India and Sri Lanka-

It is lines with the worsening political ties between the two neighbouring countries, and the security concerns that may have arisen thereof, the government in Bangladesh decided not to send the men’s team for the games that took place in India.

The BCB had earlier requested for a hybrid model from the revered ICC. But it is believed by many that this is where the issue became quite complicated because Bangladesh wanted all its matches to be held in Sri Lanka instead of India.
