Duan Jansen, twin brother of South African all-rounder Marco Jansen, has earned his maiden senior international call-up for the upcoming Namibia tour. The 26-year-old left-arm fast bowler has been included in South Africa’s white-ball squad for the first time. He could make his international debut during the T20I tri-series involving South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe. The tri-series will be followed by three ODIs against Namibia. The matches are scheduled in Windhoek between August 28 and September 6. The South African bowler’s selection has followed an impressive domestic campaign by the youngster with the Titans. He was named the franchise’s Player of the Year, First-Class Player of the Year and One-Day Player of the Year.

The call-up marks another significant milestone in the Jansen family’s cricketing journey. Duan and Marco are twins who have both developed into tall left-arm seamers. Marco’s twin stands at 6ft 8in and has represented several domestic and franchise teams. His career includes appearances for Mumbai Indians, MI Cape Town, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots and Joburg Super Kings. South Africa coach Shukri Conrad said the selection aims to provide younger players with valuable international experience. The same squad will play both formats, giving the Jansen twin a chance to push for his debut across T20Is and ODIs.

“We have all departments well covered”: South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad explains South Africa squad selection

South Africa have appointed left-arm spinner Bjorn Fortuin as captain for their upcoming T20I tri-series against Namibia and Zimbabwe. The series will be played in Windhoek from August 28 to September 6. The same squad will also feature in three ODIs against Namibia. The new Proteas skipper brings leadership experience from domestic cricket, having captained the Lions successfully. The squad also includes several players looking to establish themselves internationally. Duan Jansen, Eathan Bosch, Connor Esterhuizen, Jordan Hermann and Nqobani Mokoena have received their first international call-ups. Duan is the twin brother of South African all-rounder Marco Jansen.

South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad explained the thinking behind the squad selection. “The idea is to give some of the younger players some international experience,” Conrad said. He also highlighted South Africa’s busy schedule later this year. “We've selected one squad for both series as we feel we have all departments well covered and it provides a great opportunity for players to build on their international caps,” he added. The decision allows senior players to rest while giving emerging cricketers valuable exposure. South Africa are scheduled to face Australia, Bangladesh and England later this year. Fortuin will therefore lead a relatively young squad during an important development tour.
