Indian fast bowler Mohammed Siraj put on remarkable batting prowess on display and smashed three sixes to guide the side to a six-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the warm-up game. Notably, both sides were up in a three-day clash at the Nondescripts Cricket Ground ahead of their Test series, where the visiting side put up an all-round performance to establish an early dominance over their rivals.
In their chase of 207, the Indian side saw Yashasvi Jaiswal bounce back and score a quickfire 61 off 46 balls, adding 105 with Shubman Gill to give the side a flying start. After reaching his fifty, Jaiswal retired while his teammates got some time in the middle. Gill, on the other hand, chipped in 44 before being dismissed off Keshara Nuwantha’s delivery. Apart from them, Dhruv Jurel and Rishabh Pant chipped in 17 and 28 before India were reduced to 155-3.
However, in the final session, things got seemingly dangerous with the lower order having to complete the chase. Mohammed Siraj came up with fireworks, and hit three consecutive sixes in the last over to finish the game in style. In the last eight bowls, Siraj racked up 27 runs and guided the side to a victory.
Sarfaraz Khan Gets India Call-Up as Sai Sudharsan Sidelined with Injury
In other news, Sarfaraz Khan got India call-up as Sai Sudharsan’s toe injury ruled him out of the two-game series against Sri Lanka. On Saturday, the Indian team were hit with a major injury blow as the reports of Sudharsan being sidelined for the series. Reports suggest that while Sudharsan was able to bat well, he continues to feel the right toe stress reaction. While the side dealt with finding a number 3 batter, the selectors have named Sarfaraz Khan as his replacement.
Khan is set to link up with the squad before the team travels to Galle for the first Test, which kicks off on August 15. Khan has appeared in six Tests for India, his most recent appearance coming in the 2024 home series against New Zealand. His selection comes on the back of a solid Ranji Trophy season in the 2025-26 where he scored 429 runs from nine innings at an average of 53.62.
