On this day, December 10, 2022: India’s Ishan Kishan made history by becoming the seventh batsman in one-day international cricket to hit a double-century and the fastest to achieve the feat during his country’s third ODI match against Bangladesh. The left-hander, who reached the double-century in 126 balls after hitting nine sixes and 24 fours, joined Rohit Sharma, Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar as the only other Indians to have scored 200 runs or more in an ODI innings. By the time Taskin Ahmed was able to get him out, Kishan had notched up 210 runs which is second highest score in men’s ODI cricket for India, 54 runs behind Rohit’s record of 264.

Ishan Kishan shared in a 290-run partnership with Virat Kohli for the second wicket, with the former India captain making 113 of 91 himself. The pair’s dominance helped their side to 8-409, before they bowled Bangladesh out for 182 overs in just 34 overs. Ishan Kishan got a chance in the XI after Rohit Sharma was ruled out after sustaining a thumb injury and he made it count in possibly the best way possible.

India were 2-0 down in the three match series and this was an important knock for the team which helped them finish the series 2-1. Virat Kohli also notched up his 72nd century in this game. Ishan Kishan brought up his double century in 35th over with a single and at one point it looked he was on track to break Rohit’s record but got out.

Ishan Kishan also became the first Indian player to post a double hundred away from home in ODIs. His innings is the highest by any batsman against Bangladesh in ODIs, bettering the 194 not out by Charles Coventry for Zimbabwe at Bulawayo on August 16, 2009. During the innings break Ishan Kishan said ” The wicket was too good to bat on. My intent was very clear – if the ball is there, I’ll go for it. I’m blessed to hear my name amid such legends. Still feel when I got out – 15 overs were left. Could’ve scored 300 also”
