On this day, March 14,2010: Andrew Symonds all-round show sinks Chennai Super Kings. It was the fifth match of the 2010 edition of the IPL between Chennai Super Kings and Deccan Chargers. The match was played at Chepauk and going into the match CSK were the better side. Deccan Chargers were batting first and posted a massive total of 190/4 in the first innings. Adam Gilchrist provided them with a very quick start scoring more than 50 for the opening partnership in less than five overs.

Adam Gilchrist smashed 38 of 17 before getting dismissed but Gibbs continued to motor along as he made a crucial 45. He built a partnership along with Andew Symonds and put Deccan Chargers in a commanding position. Andrew Symonds scored a half century of 43 balls while Rohit Sharma finished things off with a ten ball 19 cameo as Deccan Chargers posted 190 on the board and it was an above par total.

Chaminda Vaas started brilliantly for the Deccan Chargers and was lethal with the new ball as Chennai Super Kings were 32/4 in less than six overs. It was always going to be difficult from there but MS Dhoni and Albie Morkel tried their best to consolidate and build a partnership. Andrew Symonds, the hero with the bat earlier in the day, came in and picked up the wicket of MS Dhoni.

Chennai Super Kings eventually finished with 159/9 at the end of the first innings and Deccan Chargers won the match by 31 runs. Andrew Symonds was excellent with the ball picking up two wickets. For his all-round show of two wickets and also scoring a half century, Symonds was the player of the match. It was a massive win for Deccan Chargers and all their four overseas players fired them to a win on that day.
