
On this day, May 30,2025: Mumbai Indians beat Gujarat Titans in the Eliminator. This was a crucial match and both the sides were inform leading up to this game. Mumbai Indians were batting first and they had a new opening pair with Jonny Bairstow partnering Rohit Sharma. The openers started brilliantly and went all guns blazing in the powerplay. Jonny Bairstow was the first to be dismissed as he fell for 47 runs in the eighth over. It was an excellent platform provided by the openers.
Rohit Sharma continued his onslaught and went past his half century. It was an innings filled with class and elegance. Mumbai Indians continued to press the accelerator as Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma played cameos while Rohit Sharma made 81 before getting dismissed. Mumbai Indians got excellent finish with Hardik Pandya smashing 22 runs off 9 balls as Mumbai ended up with 228/5 at the end of the first. The surface was good for batting but this total was above par and Mumbai were favorites at the halfway stage.
Chasing the target, all the onus was on the Gujarat Titans openers who were prolific for them throughout the season. Shubman Gill lost his wicket early and they were under pressure straight away. Sai Sudharsan along with Kusal Mendis stitched a partnership and ensured that the powerplay went well as they scored more than 60 runs. Kusal Mendis fell in the seventh over but Washington Sundar played a brilliant cameo of 48 runs from 24 balls.
Sundar and his partnership with Sai Sudharsan kept Gujarat Titans in the game and they were well poised at 151/2 before Sundar got dismissed. Sai Sudharsan made 80 runs but unfortunately it was a bit too much in the end and Gujarat Titans fell short by 20 runs. Rohit Sharma was the player of the match for his brilliant innings.
