The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is reportedly looking to reshape its leadership in preparation for upcoming assignments. Former Indian fast bowler Ajit Agarkar, who was appointed senior men’s selection committee head in 2023, is set to step down in September 2026. During his tenure, Agarkar made drastic changes to the team setup and played a key role in reshuffling the entire squad across all formats. With his contract due to expire soon, the spotlight is now on the possible candidates who could lead India’s selection policy in the future.

Senior off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has emerged as a strong contender to fill the vacant position, as he is considered one of the best brains in Indian cricket. Ashwin is well-known for his sound judgment skills and vast international experience, and he has been speculated to take over as the senior men’s selection committee head in the near future. BCCI to review support staff contracts after England tour: Report

The BCCI is set to hold crucial talks concerning the contracts of various support staff ahead of the 2026 assignments. In this regard, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia informed the media outlet Cricbuzz that a meeting would be organized in August 2026 where the performance of each coach would be evaluated. The ongoing tour of Ireland, England has not been an easy one for Team India, as white-ball results have been far from satisfactory. However, the Indian T20I squad saw success in the Zimbabwe tour under VVS Laxman. 

Particularly, the campaign in the United Kingdom witnessed a number of disheartening outcomes, including consecutive match losses. In addition, the selectors have expressed concerns over the poor strategic decision-making, which has prompted for a rethinking of the entire approach. According to Cricbuzz, the contracts of assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate and fielding coach T. Dilip were terminated at the end of their respective terms, and the board is now looking to appoint their replacements.

Saikia noted that the timing of the release was a strategic decision, as it is now necessary to rethink the strategy while preparing for the upcoming matches. Nevertheless, it must be mentioned that the exit of ten Doeschate and Dilip will not affect the morale of the players and staff, and the meeting will set the framework for a more responsive approach in the future.
