BCCI selectors unhappy with secretary Devajit Saikia over Rohit Sharma retirement comments: Report
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee is reportedly unhappy with secretary Devajit Saikia. This has occurred because of the BCCI secretary’s recent comments on Rohit Sharma’s ODI future. According to reports, the selectors had told Sharma that he would not be picked after India’s white-ball series against England. As the team is looking to move towards younger options ahead of the 2027 ODI World Cup. However, Saikia publicly dismissed the speculation before the third ODI at Lord’s and indicated that Rohit remained part of India’s plans. The veteran batter subsequently scored a stunning 138 in the match, adding another twist to the situation.
According to The Indian Express report cited by NDTV, “Selectors are unhappy with Saikia's comments given that it came after they told Sharma that he would not be selected post the white-ball series in England.” Saikia had earlier said, “There are lot of speculations going on in media about Rohit Sharma's future,” while firmly stating that there had been no discussion about Lord’s being Rohit’s final match. The report has highlighted an apparent difference of opinion between the selection committee and BCCI leadership over the former Indian skipper’s future. While selectors reportedly wanted to move on, Saikia’s public comments suggested the former captain remained in contention. The former MI skipper is now expected to be considered for India’s upcoming ODI assignment against the West Indies.
