Some ‘senior’ players of the Indian men’s cricket team have reportedly approached the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the coaching style of head coach Gautam Gambhir. As per reports, a few players have expressed their resentment over the way Gambhir has been coaching the senior men’s team. According to reports from cricblogger.com, the current head coach and former batter has been under a lot of pressure and doesn’t enjoy backing of some stakeholders in the board as well.
The report further suggests that Gambhir has often attributed losses to the players, the Centre of Excellence (CoE), or even the members of the support staff. Moreover, it went on to say that he has rarely taken accountability of his decisions or the decisions made by the team management. This led to some senior players privately and informally approaching the BCCI as well as former players and raised objections regarding the same.
Gautam Gambhir Continues to Enjoy BCCI’s Backing Despite Poor Performances
Despite the concerns raised by the players to the BCCI, the former India star continues to enjoy the backing of the BCCI and is firmly incharge of the Indian team. Per reports, board officials continue to have their confidence in the 2011 ODI World Cup winner and are of the opinion that he should be given adequate time to implement his plans and strategies. Though the fact that Indian cricket fans have objected against Gambhir’s coaching style and want the BCCI to sack him.
However, as per the latest development, the forthcoming series and tours could prove significant for Gambhir, who is currently at the helm of Indian coaching staff. While the BCCI continues to support and back the former opener, their expectations from him have significantly increased. It is to be noted that the responsibility of the losses against New Zealand, South Africa, Australia and England were placed on the players rather than the coaching staff.
