Nagaon Rangers batters Sumit Kashyap and Soumyadeep Das came up with a stunning 130-run opening-wicket partnership to guide the side to a six-wicket win. On Sunday, August 9, the Rangers were up against the Charaideo Sunrisers in the 18th clash of the Assam Premier League at Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. The game saw the Rangers’ skipper Anurag Talukdar win the toss and invite the rivals to put the score on the board.
While Sumit Ghadigaonkar and Co. were aiming to put an end to their two-game losing streak, the rivals had different plans. The Rangers’ bowlers went all out right from the beginning and dismissed opener Pradyun Saikia on a two-ball duck. The skipper was next to walk back to the pavilion off eight runs. While Hrishikesh Tamuli seemingly got things stable with his 36-ball 40, the players kept changing on the other end of the crease. Tamuli finished as the team’s leading scorer while Himanshu Saraswat remained not out at 26 runs as they posted 139 with the loss of nine wickets.
Nagaon Rangers Go all Out; Chase Total within 14 Overs to End Three-Game Losing Slump
In the second innings, the Sunrisers were hoping to bounce back and get their momentum. However, Rangers were in no mood to let go of their potential first win in four games. Openers Sumit Kashyap and Soumyadeep Das put on a terrific display of batting prowess as they seamlessly chased the target of 140 within 13.2 overs. While Kashyap hit 44-ball 66* with two boundaries and six maximums, Das put up a 36-ball 70-run show with the combination of five boundaries and six towering sixes.
Talking about their bowling performance, Rahul Singh scalped two wickets along with Sunil Lachit and Jitu Ali, whereas Bhargav Dutta picked up three wickets for the side. Dutta finished with the figures of 3/18 to win the Player of the Match Award. Following their win, the Rangers are at the seventh spot with three points, courtesy of one win in five games. The Sunrisers are in fifth position with two wins in five games and four points.
