Former India cricketer and head of BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) VVS Laxman heaped praise on batter Virat Kohli. Laxman asserted that the standards Kohli has set for himself are the ones that he strives to achieve every time he is out on the field. Laxman also went on to say that this one quality makes him a fan favourite and there are many youngsters out there who are trying to emulate him for the same.
Not only this, but the former cricketer also went on to laud Kohli’s commitment to maintain the standards of the game. He was speaking to the media on Sunday in Bengaluru, where he stated, “I think there is no doubt that Virat is an exemplary professional. And the standards he sets for himself are something which he tries and goes out every time he plays, whichever team, to meet those standards.” “And that is why he is a great role model. And I think a lot of youngsters or players want to emulate him," he further stated.
Important to Understand Guidelines and Timelines; Human Body is not a Machine: VVS Laxman
The Indian team’s health has taken a significant hit recently, with a latest report suggesting that a total of 13 players are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the CoE. Some of them are star players including Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Sai Sudharsan, Washington Sundar, Riyan Parag, among others. Not only this, but the recent performances and players’ health have also landed the Bengaluru-based training center in hot waters.
However, Laxman talked about the same and said that there is a process that is followed right from when a player is diagnosed to the time they leave the center. “This is where I think it is very important to understand that the guidelines and the timelines are given based on what you expect. But it is the human body. It’s not a machine where the timelines will always be met," he said.
“So there is a continuous process of understanding how a player is progressing and based on that, the load is increased. So that is a process from the time they are diagnosed with the injury to the time they leave the CoE and declare fit," Laxman added.
