Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, the 15-year-old batting sensation from India, made headlines with a remarkable performance when it truly counted. During the Tri-Nation Series final against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla on Sunday, he smashed the fastest fifty in List A cricket history. The left-handed opener came out swinging, taking on the bowling attack right from the first ball and racing to a world-record half-century in just 11 deliveries. His explosive innings of 94 runs off 29 balls came just days after a fiery on-field clash with Sri Lanka A players and followed a series of modest scores throughout the tournament. By the time he walked off the field, India A had firmly taken control of the final, and the young star had etched his name in the record books.
Sooryavanshi was aggressive from the get-go, combining crisp boundaries with massive sixes to dismantle the Sri Lankan bowlers during the powerplay. He hit 10 fours and eight sixes, boasting a strike rate that soared above 324, breaking the long-standing record for the fastest List A fifty, which was previously set at 12 balls. Unfortunately, his innings came to an end in the ninth over when Sri Lanka A captain Sahan Arachchige lured him into a lofted shot that was caught at mid-off. The young prodigy finished with 94 runs, just six runs shy of a century, and narrowly missed out on the record for the fastest List A hundred.
