Former Australian pacer Brett Lee has made a big prediction ahead of the start of the 2026 WT20. Speaking to Mr Cricket UAE podcast, Brett Lee has made a bold prediction that Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav to be the Most Valuable Player of the tournament. Suryakumar Yadav had a miserable time last year with the bat but has bounced back in style and in the recent T20I series against New Zealand he smashed 242 runs in five matches and showed plenty of glimpses of his brilliance. When he was asked about the highest wicket-taker of the tournament, Brett Lee had no doubts and said that Varun Chakravarthy will be the bowler with most wickets. “His form coming into this, the wickets will be prepared that will suit him, the way that he can bamboozle the batters, I think this is set for him, this will be his World Cup,” he said.
Varun Chakravarthy has been the best spinner in this format over the last year and he picked up 36 wickets in 2025. He will be a key player for India in this upcoming WT20 along with Bumrah.
Brett Lee also made his predictions for the top four teams and also winner. Speaking about the winner, he said that either of Australia or India will win the title. When he was put under the spotlight to name only one team he replied with ‘’don’t hate me, Australia will win, that’s my heart’’
Brett Lee picked India, Australia, England and New Zealand as the four teams to be part of the semis and mentioned that New Zealand will be the dark horse team in this WT20. India are the defending champions having won the title in 2024 WT20 and they have a very strong squad. Playing at home they will be one of the favorites. The upcoming WT20 starts on February 7 and this is set to be a spectacle with 20 teams from across the globe part of the event.
