They say, “When you dream big, miracles happen” and Sanju Samson did exactly the same before his moment arrived on Sunday. Despite being benched for a few games, Samson emerged as the match winner for India in their virtual quarter-final against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
A famous saying by Eleanor Roosevelt goes like, "The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams"
Sanju Samson termed the innings against the Windies to be the ‘greatest day’ of his life. He also said that he waited all his life for that opportunity and further added that, “It means the whole world to me. Right from the day I started playing, started dreaming of playing for the country, this is the knock I was waiting for. I had a very special journey. I had a lot of up. I had a lot of ups and downs where I kept doubting myself, thinking will I make it? But I am thankful to the almighty for blessing me today,”
The ICC have posted a special video on their social media handles where they have shown a candid conversation between Sanju Samson and Rohit Sharma on the first day of the World Cup. The former Indian skipper motivated Samson by saying, “Don’t be disheartened, brother. It is a long tournament and your chance can come any time,”
Fast forward to the 23rd day of the competition when Sanju Samson came up with the most important innings of his career. The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) man scored 97 runs off 50 balls and took India over the line in a 196 run chase against the Windies. His innings included twelve fours and four sixes and a strike rate of 194. After winning the game for India, Samson fell down on his knees and looked up to the sky and thanked the almighty with both his hands.
