India have gotten off to a flying start in the 2026 ICC Women’s T20I World Cup with a thumping victory over Pakistan in their opening game. It was a well-rounded display that commenced with the brilliant knock from Smriti Mandhana while opening the innings and it was well complemented by Richa Ghosh in the end. India did a decent job with the bat to set up a total of 170 and the rest of the work was done by the bowlers. The spin attack led by Deepti Sharma were clinical with their lengths and the Pakistani batters didn’t have an answer to their deliveries.
Pakistan had their moments in the game early on as they picked two quick wickets to start the first innings but they were shabby in the field, dropping some important catches. They could have limited the total to 150 but the penultimate over went for over 20 runs and they just threw away the game. The Indian bowling was exceptionally good with their bowling as Deepti Sharma picked up 5 wickets along with Shree Charani who picked up 3 wickets as well from her 4 overs.
