England were part of a thrilling win against Mexico in the Round of 16 game of the World Cup 2026 at Azteca on Sunday. England’s ten-man side won 3-2 after a memorable performance against the co-hosts Mexico. Captain of England, Harry Kane said they need to "calm down" after the emotionally draining win over Mexico that took them through to the FIFA World Cup 2026 quarter-finals. They will be up against Norway in the next game and they will be the favorites going into that game as they will be keen to put on another good performance.
England captain Kane said in a video posted on social media that they needed to stay calm and get prepared for the massive quarter-final match. He said "Into the next round. Incredible night, we appreciate the support. I know we had loads in the stadium and loads watching back home staying up late. The connection with everyone is even stronger now and we feel that more than ever. We recover now, we calm down, we have a couple of days relaxing and then obviously get prepared for a massive quarter-final."
Harry Kane: Mexico game was one of my favourite games in an England shirt
Harry Kane who scored a penalty against Mexico said that it was one of his favourite games in an England shirt. Speaking about the performance against Mexico, Harry Kane said ‘’Going into that game was so special, the atmosphere, the stadium... Everyone was so excited to be there and play in this iconic game. To come through the adversities in the game and battle through the way we did and put our bodies on the line and the boys covering every blade of grass was just incredible to be part of, to be honest. It's one of my favourite games in an England shirt, without a doubt. Full credit to all the boys, so proud of everyone, all the staff, everyone involved. We knew the test we were going into, we knew how tough it would be and we came out on top."
England had to fight plenty of battles in the game against Mexico and that is one of their best wins in foreign soil. Mexico had lost just two out of the 89 games prior to that fixture and England players were not used to the altitude. It was a performance that showed the character of this England side. England captain Harry Kane has scored six goals so far at the World Cup and is fourth in the list behind Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Haaland. He has led from the front and England will be hoping he gets them over the line against Norway in the Quarter-Final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
