Kylian Mbappe scored a hat-trick on Wednesday as Real Madrid defeated Real Sociedad 4-1 at the Santiago Bernabeu in their first home La Liga match of the season. The French forward scored in the 40th, 60th and 80th minutes, with Vinicius Junior scoring the other goal for Jose Mourinho’s side. The match took place on 26 August in Madrid in front of a crowd of more than 72,000. Mbappe opened the scoring when he took a pass from Federico Valverde, cut past a defender and fired into the top corner. Luka Sucic equalised four minutes later for the visitors. After the break, Mbappe got back the lead with a finish set up by Jude Bellingham, Vinicius tapped in after the pressing, and Mbappe completed his hat-trick with a composed shot from Vinicius’s assist.
The result gave Jose Mourinho a winning return at home more than 13 years after his previous home match in charge and moved Real Madrid to the top of the early LaLiga table with two wins from two. Mbappe’s three goals took his club tally to 89 in 105 matches and marked his first league goals of the campaign. It was clinical finishing from Mbappe who got good support from Vinicius and Bellingham. Real Madrid controlled the second half and left the home fans celebrating a win in the new season under their returning coach.

Real Madrid and Real Sociedad produced a closely fought first half at the Bernabeu. Early chances came to both sides while Mbappe tested Alex Remiro from a tight angle. On the other hand, Thibaut Courtois denied Mikel Oyarzabal. Sergio Gomez nearly scored with a fierce volley that flashed wide. In the 40th minute the first goal arrived. Valverde drove forward and slipped a precise pass to Mbappe, who took a quick touch to evade his marker and smashed a left-footed shot into the top corner for 1-0. The lead lasted only four minutes. A deflected effort fell kindly to Sucic who drilled the equaliser past Courtois to send the teams into the interval level at 1-1.
Jose Mourinho introduced Marc Cucurella at the break and Madrid emerged sharper. Greater intensity and direct running from the front three stretched the visitors. After the first hour mark Mbappe and Bellingham exchanged a sharp one-two inside the box and the Frenchman finished low past Remiro to make it 2-1. Eight minutes later Bellingham’s relentless pressing won the ball high up the pitch. He recovered possession and crossed for Vinícius to tap in the simplest of finishes which extended the lead to 3-1.
With the game under control for Madrid, Vinícius produced another big moment in the 80th minute. He shot a perfectly angled through ball behind the defence. Mbappe raced onto it and lifted a delicate chip shot over the advancing Remiro to complete his hat-trick and seal a 4-1 victory. A late goal by substitute Brahim Diaz was ruled out by VAR for offside. The result completed a strong opening week for Mourinho’s side where they have won two games.
