Paul Doyle, the man who was accused of deliberately using his car as a weapon and driving it into the Liverpool fans who were celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League victory on the streets of Liverpool, has pleaded not guilty to the 31 charges pressed against him. This shocking incident had injured more than 130 people in the crowd which included eight children, all of the people being dashed by his Ford Galaxy.
The former Royal Marine commando faces several charges including causing grievous bodily harm with intent and dangerous driving. The allegations against him include causing severe damage to 29 people while two of them were babies. The youngest of the victims was reportedly just six-months old while the oldest victim was a 77-year-old. From the prison, Doyle appeared at the Liverpool Crown Court through video link. The 53-year-old pleaded "not guilty" to all the charges pressed against him.
The trial for the case has been fixed for November 25th: Reports
The legal team of the accused were not happy with the system of the court as they claim to have faced several difficulties to visit their client and had to wait for a long period of time to even hold a meeting over videolink. The lawyers of the defendant also stated that the court has still not arranged a laptop for Dyle in the prison to view CCTV footage of the incident and view other evidence.
A trial date has been fixed for November 25 and the case is expected to last around a month. The pre-trial review hearing is expected to take place on October 27. The accused was initially charged with seven offences but 24 new counts were added to the charges at a hearing last month. This tragic incident has completely shook the society and appropriate steps are being taken to grant justice to all the victims of the incident.
