On Sunday, November 2, Wolves sacked manager Vitor Pereira with immediate effect after a winless start in their first 10 matches in the ongoing Premier League 2025-26 season. In their last outing under Vitor Pereira in charge, Wolves suffered a 3-0 defeat against Fulham in the Premier League away from home at the Craven Cottage, leaving them rock bottom in the standings with just two draws to their name apart from eight losses, eight points off safety.
Notably, Vitor Pereira was given the reins of Wolves in December 2024 on a three-year contract, replacing Gary O’Neil when they were 19th in the Premier League standings in the 2024-25 season. He managed to turn around the fortunes of the club, especially towards the back end of the campaign, to help them finish in 16th place in the standings, sandwiched between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, who have flourished in the ongoing new season.
Results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards: Wolves on Vitor Pereira's sacking
In the official statement on the matter, posted on their website, Wolves wrote, “Upon his arrival at Molineux last December, Pereira and his coaches made an immediate impact, guiding the team to a successful second half of the Premier League campaign. However, results and performances this term have fallen below acceptable standards, and as a result a change in leadership was deemed necessary. All eight of Pereira’s backroom staff have also left the club.”
They also confirmed that the likes of James Collins and Richard Walker, who are the head coaches of Wolves' U-21 and U-18 teams respectively, will train the first team while the club officials finalise the appointment of a new manager. Jeff Shi, the Executive Chairman of Wolves, said the following about the decision, “Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful.”
“Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change,” he added.
