Carlos Sainz had a tumultuous recent Dutch Grand Prix of 2025 where a ten second time penalty levied on the popular Spanish driver not only hampered his race result but also left his relations with the FIA fraught! Why was that? Well, that was simply because Sainz whose own race was comprised all thanks to a dubious move executed by Liam Lawson of Racing Bulls meant the Spaniard’s Williams was contacted with.

In what was an incident fuelled move by the Kiwi driver, Sainz was left livid with him dropping down several places eventually - thus falling well outside the points. While he had hoped that it would be Liam Lawson who’d be summoned to see the FIA marshals, it was Carlos. And now, with dust having settled over the recent Dutch GP, it appears that Carlos’s penalty will still be brought up at what’s left for Monza, the home of the Italian Grand Prix.

Resultantly, the drivers are expecting a long hearing session in what lies ahead at Monza with the subject of Carlos’s 10-second time penalty being possibly discussed with the FIA stewards at Italy. So what does that mean?

Alex Albon defends Carlos Sainz in connection with Dutch GP penalty incident

F1 content site Racing News 365 shared some insights and explained Alex Albon’s perspective about on the crash and thus, the penalty inflicted upon Sainz. He defended the 31-year-old, insisting the collision should have been deemed as either a racing incident or a penalty for Liam Lawson.

Alex Albon further added, “I think at the time on the radio, after coming out onto the back straight, I kind of said, 'Okay, well, yeah, Liam's at fault there. He was clearly at fault, from my point of view, from [behind]. I think I got told about Carlos' penalty on the in-lap after the race, and that was also surprising.”

Resultantly, much of the current grid is expecting that what lies further at Monza would the contentious issue of the Carlos Sainz Dutch GP penalty, which would be discussed at length. And perhaps rightly so, one would assume.
