The Afghanistan Cricket team are in training mode as they are set to feature in a T20 tournament for the Tri-Nation series from August 29 to September 7 as they lock horns against UAE and Pakistan. All the matches will be played at the Sharjah Cricket stadium. This is set to be the perfect preparation for them as they head for the Asia Cup 2025. Afghanistan have been drawn in the Group ‘B’ in the Asia cup and will be competing against Hong Kong, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka to progress to the next round of the tournament.
Ahead of both these tournaments, the Afghanistan Cricket team will be organising a two-week training camp in preparation. The Afghanistan Cricket Board have taken to their media handles to announce the 22-member preliminary squad. The ACB announced, “Afghanistan Cricket Board's National Selection Committee has finalized a 22-member preliminary squad that will feature in a two-week training and preparation camp ahead of their upcoming Tri-Nation Series and the ACC Men's T20 Asia Cup.”
Afghanistan to lock horns against Hong Kong in their first match of Asia Cup 2025
The Asia Cup is scheduled to kick-off from September 9 and will conclude within seventeen days. All the matches are set to be hosted in Dubai and Abu Dhabi .However, all the matches of Afghanistan are set to take place at Abu Dhabi. The first match of Afghanistan will be played on 9th September against Hong Kong while the rest of the matches against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka will be played after a small gap on the 16th and 18th respectively.
The Veteran spin-king of Afghanistan, Rashid Khan will lead the team in both of the series. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (WK), Azmatullah Omarzai, Sediqullah Atal, Gulbadin Naib, Wafiullah Tarakhil, Mujeeb Zadran, Ibrahim Zadran, Am Ghazanfar, Darwish Rasooli, Noor Ahmad, Lakanwal, Mohammad Ishaq, Fazalhaq Farooqi, Naveen-ul-Haq, Farid Malik, Mohammad Nabi, Nangyal Kharoti, Sharafuddin Ashraf, Karim Janat, Saleem Safi, Abdullah Ahmadzai and Bashir Ahmad are the rest of the members included in the preliminary squad for the training camp.
