The transfer saga of Viktor Gyokeres concluded with Arsenal signing him. Mikel Arteta’s appeared attempt to end the Gunner’s title drought has led to the club a pack of strikers including Martin Zubimendi (£51m), Christian Norgaard (£15m), and Kepa Arrizabalaga (£5m), and Gyokeres as the latest addition. The deal to sign Gyokeres from Sporting CP culminated with a £55.1 million fixed fee and £8.7 million in add-ons. Gyokeres also appeared to be very determined to join Arsenal was evident throughout this process as the striker refused to join other clubs like Manchester United and Chelsea who were reportedly interested in him.

On July 25, Viktor Gyokeres arrived in London for his medical and signed a five-year contract, marking one of the most significant transfers of the 2025 summer window. The 27-year-old Swedish footballer was officially unveiled as an Arsenal player in Singapore during the club’s pre-season tour. In his first interview with Arsenal’s official website, Gyökeres expressed his unwavering commitment to the Gunners, stating, “There were more clubs involved, but I wanted to come here at Arsenal, it’s the best club for me.” He also hinted at the complexities of the transfer, noting, “It wasn’t an easy deal. Some people spoke to the media all the time, they thought they were protecting the interest of the club.”

Arsenal finished second with ten points behind Liverpool last season

Gyokeres’ arrival is speculated to address Arsenal’s long-standing need for a clinical No. 9. Last season, the Gunners finished second in the Premier League, 10 points behind Liverpool, scoring 17 fewer goals. Injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz left Arsenal without a recognized striker for much of the campaign, prompting Arteta to prioritize a forward in the transfer market. Gyokeres, who scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting, including 39 league goals last season and a Champions League hat-trick against Manchester City.

Arsenal’s fans are looking very optimistic with Gyokeres’ arrival. During a pre-season friendly against AC Milan in Singapore, supporters mimicked his trademark goal celebration, locking hands in front of their mouths signaling their excitement. In addition to the wingers Arsenal have also signed winger Noni Madueke (£48.5m), and defender Cristhian Mosquera (£13m) taking their total spending reportedly to nearly £200 million.
