The arrival of Viktor Gyokeres at Arsenal might have ignited their title hopes. Despite performing strongly from quite sometime, the Gunners have failed to either win the UEFA Champions League or the Premier League. In a recent interview with ESPN, defender William Saliba also expressed being hopeful and optimistic with Gyokeres’ presence. Viktor Gyokeres has recently signed a deal with Arsenal till summer of 2030. His transfer from Sporting CP marks the culmination of a long-running saga that saw the 27-year-old forward emerge as a primary target for Gunners manager Mikel Arteta, this move by the Gunner dominated the headlines in the summer transfer window of 2025.

While giving clarity on the transfer of Viktor Gyokeres, Fulham manager Marco Silva said that his club also showed interest in the Swedish footballer. “That story that nobody had noticed Gyokeres, that’s nonsense,” Silva said in a candid interview with Portuguese outlet A Bola. Partly agreeing on the claim, Silva agreed that the top clubs hadn’t noticed Gyokeres. Adding to it he said, “But as for mid-table clubs, all of them had noticed him. There were offers to buy Gyokeres, and I even spoke with his agent.” Silva’s remarks underscore the widespread interest in Gyokeres during his time at Coventry, where he scored 43 goals in 116 appearances, earning a spot in the Championship Team of the Year for the 2022-23 season.

The new signings of Arsenal signals their intend to compete for the title this season

Viktor Gyokeres will now be expected to lead the line for Arsenal, a job that Kai Havertz was entrusted with in the 2024-23 season. Last season, Gyokeres made 52 appearances across competitions for Sporting CP, scoring 54 goals. Alongside Gyokeres, the Gunners have secured the signatures of Martin Zubimendi, Christian Norgaard, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Noni Madueke, and Cristhian Mosquera, signaling their intent to compete for the Premier League title in the 2025-26 season.

His transfer to Arsenal marks a return to English football after earlier stints with Brighton and loan spells at St Pauli and Swansea City, where he struggled to make an impact before finding his footing at Coventry. Fulham’s interest in signing Gyokeres is speculated with his standout performances against them in 2021-22, when Coventry became the only team to defeat Fulham twice in their promotion-winning season.
