Preview

Pakistan and Sri Lanka are already through to the final of the Asia Cup 2022 and this Super 4s match between the two teams seems like a rehearsal game. Both teams will look for a decent outing before the summit clash. The two captains can also look to test their bench strength and rest important players to keep them fresh for the big game on Sunday. It is to be seen if the Dasun Shanaka-led team can continue their winning run or will Pakistan rectify their mistakes against Afghanistan and emerge victorious.

Pitch Report

The Dubai pitch has been a mediocre one so far. While runs were hard to score in the early stages of the tournament, teams have started putting up good totals in the last few games. However, batting first is still a bit tricky with the pitch all dry and sticky. Bowlers, especially spinners, will play a crucial role here.

Team Analysis

Sri Lanka

If there has been one team in the Asia Cup 2022 that has impressed everyone with its performances, it’s been Sri Lanka. The Dasun Shanka-led side has played like a team as each and every player has contributed to their wins so far. Ever since that defeat to Afghanistan in the group stage of the tournament, Sri Lanka have not made many errors. Shanaka has been a fabulous leader in terms of leading the team by example. Kusal Mendis has been that consistent performer for Sri Lanka as the batter has accumulated 155 runs in 4 matches so far.

Pathum Nissanka, Bhanuka Rajapaksa, Chamika Karunaratne, Dilshan Madushanka, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Maheesh Theekshana have been the other players who have chipped in all the matches to make a difference. It remains to be seen if they continue to do in rest of the games.

Pakistan

The Babar Azam-led team have not been as clinical as they would have liked but it’s the results that matter and Pakistan have got pretty good results. After losing to India in their group stage game, Pakistan have remained undefeated and hence are set to play the final of the Asia Cup 2022. Pakistan almost erred against Afghanistan in their last game but Naseem Shah showed nerves of steel to hit consecutive sixes and win the game for his team.

Mohammad Rizwan has been a consistent performer (except for the failure against Afghanistan), and so have Shadab Khan, Haris Rauf, and Mohammad Nawaz. These three have consistently chipped in and ensured Pakistan finish on the right side. However, captain Babar Azam has looked rusty. It’s the only problem Pakistan will look to sort out before the summit clash.

Conclusion

Although Sri Lanka have been consistent, one rare failure can put them in trouble. Meanwhile, Pakistan have got all the good resources who can win a match on their own.
