While the race saw some drama as Yanni Wu started prior to the official start and after being shown the disqualification card, also put the allegation on the Indian athlete Yarraji of some false movement. However, Yarraji was also shown the disqualification card, but the referee decided to commence the race with all athletes and later decide on the false start controversy.

Later, the Chinese, who finished first was disqualified, with her compatriot being upgraded to gold and Yarraji taking the silver.
