On October 3, Tuesday, the Indian women’s hockey team qualified through to the semi-final at the Asian Games 2023, after demolishing the challenge of Hong Kong with a 13-0 margin. At the Gongshu Canal Sports Park Stadium in Hangzhou, Team India stayed undefeated in Pool A to finish in top spot ahead of South Korea on goal difference.

The Indians started the match on fire, scoring two field goals in the first four minutes through Vandana Katariya and Deepika. In the 7th minute, Monika got her name on the scoresheet, while Deep Grace Ekka converted the penalty corner from the top of the circle to give India the 4-0 lead after the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Vandana Katariya got the ball rolling for the Indian women’s hockey team, with a goal in the 16th minute. The first half ended after Sangeeta Kumari scored from open play in the 27th minute to make the lead soar to 6-0 against Hong Kong.

The third quarter had two goals from India, through penalty corners, with Vashnavi Vitthal Phalke scoring in the 34th minute and Deep Grace Ekka doing the same in the 42nd minute. With the 8-0 cushion, the Indian women’s hockey team didn’t relent on their attacking play in the fourth quarter.

Vandana Katariya completed her hat-trick in the 48th minute, while Deep Grace Ekka scored her third goal of the day through a penalty corner in the 53rd minute. Sangeeta Kumari got her second goal of the day in the 55th minute, before Navneet Kaur found her name on the scoresheet and Deepika got the third hat-trick for an Indian against Hong Kong, both through a penalty corner, in the 58th minute.
