Former England pacer Stuart Broad has reacted to Australia legend Glenn McGrath’s prediction regarding the English side’s whitewash in the upcoming Ashes. McGrath had predicted that noting Australia’s dominance against their arch-rivals at home, the visitors could record another 0-5 loss in the upcoming marquee series. England haven’t won any Test Down Under for the last 14 years. After winning the 2010-11 Ashes, England lost three consecutive red-ball competitions in Aussie conditions. In 2013-14, they got clean swept by 0-5 while after three years, when the English team toured Australia for five contests, they recorded a 4-0 loss. The similar result came in 2021-22 under Joe Root’s captaincy.
Highlighting England’s miserable outing in Australia, McGrath in a conversation with BBC Radio Live had said, “It's very rare for me to make a prediction, isn't it? And I can't make a different one – 5-0. I'm very confident with our team. When you've got Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Nathan Lyon firing in their home conditions, it's going to be pretty tough... Plus, that track record England have had, it'd be interesting to see if they can win a Test”. Reacting to McGrath’s comment, Stuart Broad took to X and wrote, “It’s August!! At least let us land Glenn!
Will England’s bazball style work in Australia?
England will be touring Australia for the first time after adopting the bazball playing style under the leadership of their coach Brendon McCullum and captain Ben Stokes. During the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025, Australia’s star batter warned England regarding their unconventional playing way in the Ashes. While speaking to BBC Sport, he had said, “Their (England) batters are going to be challenged a little bit differently to the wickets they have had over in England for a while, which have looked pretty flat and good for batting.”
England’s batting attack are expected to face a massive challenge against Australia’s magnificent bowling unit which features illustrious names such as Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, and Nathan Lyon.
