Indian tennis star Sania Mirza once again put her best foot forward in her Round 1 match at the Australian Open 2023. The Indian star who paired with Russia-born Kazak player Anna Danilina cruised past the Women’s doubles pair of B. Pera and D. Galfi in Round of 64 of the Australian Open 2023.
The Indo-Kazak pair won the first set 6-2 with the opponents leveling the second set with a neck-and-neck battle at 4-4. The second set which lasted for 51 minutes, the doubles pair of Mirza and Danilina gave it a fight and clinched it 7-5.
Sania Mirza to retire after Australian Open 2023
The Indian tennis stalwart Sania Mirza gave a life update on January 13, 2023 (Friday). The 36-year-old will call her time from international tennis after the Australian Open. Earlier, the six-time major champion had announced that she would be retiring after WTA 1000 Dubai Tennis Championships, which gets underway on February 19.
“Thirty (yes, 30!) years ago a 6-year-old girl from Nasr School in Hyderabad, walked on to a tennis court at Nizam Club with her young mom fought the coach to let her learn how to play tennis as he thought that she was too little:) . ….” the message started.
