Australia's leg-spinner Adam Zampa is set to join Surrey ahead of their upcoming double-header against Essex, featuring both the men’s and women’s teams at the Kia Oval on July 6. Zampa, who holds the record as Australia’s leading wicket-taker in T20 Internationals with 117 wickets, was the first Australian to reach the 100-wicket milestone in the format.
A key figure in Australia’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2021 and their 50-over World Cup victory in 2024, the experienced spinner has played for different franchises. Further, he was featured in several prominent T20 leagues across the globe, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), Big Bash League (BBL), Caribbean Premier League (CPL), and Major League Cricket (MLC).
I can't wait to get going for Surrey and to play in front of the Kia Oval crowd: Adam Zampa
The leg spinner, who is credited with 363 T20 wickets with an average of 21.72 in 298 matches, has earned good experience in playing league cricket across the world. Zampa is also set to feature for Surrey in their upcoming fixture against Gloucestershire in Bristol, followed by home matches against Glamorgan on July 11, and Somerset shortly after. Should Surrey progress to the knockout stages of the Vitality Blast, the Australian leg-spinner will remain available for both the quarter-finals and Finals Day in September.
Expressing his excitement, Zampa mentioned that he is keen to play for Brown Caps and gain experience. "I can't wait to get going for Surrey and to play in front of the Kia Oval crowd once again. It's one of the great grounds in the world to play the game, and I know how much playing for Surrey means to the lads, so I'm looking forward to seeing what it's all about," Zampa told to Surrey's website.
Meanwhile, his national team, Australia, are currently engaged in a three-match Test series against England, which will be followed by a five-match T20I series beginning on July 21 at Sabina Park in Kingston, Jamaica. Surrey’s High Performance Cricket Advisor, Alec Stewart, expressed his delight at securing Zampa’s services. "Adam Zampa is one of the finest T20 spinners in world cricket and I'm excited to welcome him to Surrey for the Blast. He brings a wealth of experience and technical skills on the pitch and great character off it," Stewart said.
