Avinash Sable, the Commonwealth Games silver medallist and national record holder in the men's 3000m steeplechase, will compete in his second Diamond League event of the season in Stockholm on Sunday.

The 28-year-old Indian runner made his Diamond League debut in Rabat, Morocco in May 2023, where he finished 10th, clocking 8:17.18s. He was up against a strong field that included the Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco, who won the race with a personal best of 7:56.68s.

Sable will face El Bakkali again in Stockholm, along with other top steeplechasers such as the 2019 Diamond League winner Getnet Wale of Ethiopia, the Commonwealth Games champion Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya, and the Olympic bronze medallist Benjamin Kigen of Kenya. Sable broke his own national record in the men's 5000m at the Sound Running On Track Fest 2023 meet in Los Angeles in May, clocking 13:19.30s.

The Maharashtra-born Indian athlete will hope to continue his impressive run and challenge the best in the world at the Stockholm Diamond League, which is the seventh leg of the annual top-tier track and field series. The top eight athletes in each event qualify for the final, which will be held in Eugene, USA on September 16 and 17.
