On Saturday, March 8, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), announced that the Zimbabwe cricket team will be arriving in their country on April 15, to play a two-match Test series. The first of the two Test matches in the series between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe will begin at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium on April 20, while the second Test will be going down from April 28 onwards at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram.

Notably, this will be the first Test tour for the Zimbabwe cricket team to Bangladesh in more than five years, as per the report from Cricbuzz. Before this, in February 2020 before the pandemic, the Bangladesh cricket team got the better of Zimbabwe by an innings and 106 runs in a one-off Test match, which was played at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Bangladesh last played international cricket during ICC Champions Trophy 2025

The iconic stadium in Dhaka, is currently hosting the premier List A tournament in the country, Dhaka Premier League (DPL), which is why it isn’t getting the Test match between Bangladesh and Zimbabwe next month. The BCB official was quoted as saying on the matter, “We are regularly having DPL matches in SBNS and so we decided to play the Test series in Chattogram and Sylhet because there you will get wickets that have got enough rest while it wouldn't have been the case in Dhaka.”

Moreover, Bangladesh cricket team last played internationals during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, losing to India and New Zealand in one-sided contests in Group A. After bowing out of the race to make the semi-final of the tournament, Bangladesh had their third and final group stage match against hosts Pakistan getting washed out without a ball being bowled in Rawalpindi late last month.
