FC Barcelona sporting director Deco has laid out the club’s current strategic direction following his latest interview with RAC1, with particular emphasis on the upcoming transfer window. While Deco admitted admiration for Liverpool’s Luis Diaz and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford, he was quick to downplay the possibility of big money signings this summer. Financial limitations mean the club is unlikely to engage in major market moves.

Deco’s acknowledgment of players like Diaz and Rashford reflects Barcelona’s long-term vision of adding quality and dynamism to their attack. However, he made it clear that financial stability takes precedence, and the club will not compromise its recovery plan by overspending. With market opportunities limited, Deco believes internal development and tactical planning under new head coach Hansi Flick will be the pillars of Barcelona's progress. This approach aligns with recent successes under Flick, including victories in La Liga, the Copa del Rey, and the Supercopa de Espana.

Deco confirms renewal of several key players in coming days

A major focus for Deco is contract renewals. He highlighted the extension of 17-year-old Lamine Yamal as a top priority, calling him potentially “the best signing in years” due to his maturity and impact. Alongside Yamal, Deco is working to renew the contracts of key players such as Pedri, Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Raphinha, and Jules Kounde. He stressed that retaining core talents offers more stability than entering risky transfer pursuits and helps build a strong foundation for the future.

Deco also addressed other pressing internal matters. He confirmed plans to renew Marc-Andre ter Stegen’s contract while actively searching for a long-term successor in goal due to aging squad members. He also confirmed the club’s desire to have Szczesny on board beyond the current season depending on whether the Polish goalie wants to continue. He said, “We have talented keepers at La Masia too, we could give them chances too.”
