The former WWE wrestler Billy Jack Haynes has been charged with the murder of his wife on Wednesday, February 28, after her body was found at the couple’s home earlier this month. The 70-year-old allegedly shot his wife Janette Becraft, 85, in a fatal encounter in the Lents neighbourhood in Portland on February 8, before the police were called to their home.
Billy Jack Haynes, whose real-life name is William Albert Haynes Jr., was released from hospital on February 28, before getting transferred to Multnomah County Detention Center on an arrest warrant, as per the Portland Police Bureau. According to the earlier statement from the police, he was taken to the hospital to get “treated for a medical condition unrelated to the homicide or his contact with law enforcement.”
The report from the New York Post stated that Billy Jack Haynes was charged with “murder in the second degree” and “unlawful use of a weapon” for killing his wife Janette Becraft a few weeks ago.
On February 8, just after 9:50 AM, the Portland Police Bureau responded to a call of shots getting fired in the Lents neighbourhood, on the 6000 block of Southeast 100th Avenue. Billy Jack Haynes was taken into custody by the police after SWAT teams had a two-hour-long standoff with him.
The police officers found the dead body of Janette Becraft inside the couple’s home after detaining his husband, ruling her death a homicide by gunshot wound.
During the late 1980s, Billy Jack Haynes was a well-known name in the world of WWE, feuding with the likes of the Macho Man Randy Savage and Hercule Hernandez, among other wrestling stars in the promotion.
