Chelsea confirmed the departure of goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic to Bournemouth. The Cherries signed the Serbian international reportedly for £25m with a five-year deal. The 25-year-old has been with Chelsea since 2023, when he arrived from Major League Soccer club New England Revolution, and has gone on to make 31 first-team appearances for the Blues. Expressing his excitement to join Cherries, Petrovic said, “I’m really happy to be here." “I came to Bournemouth because I want to grow and I want to play at the best level. Together with this club, with these facilities, I think we can achieve it. I want to help the team get the results, improve every day and be a better player.”

Petrovic will get linked up with the squad before their pre-season tour in the US, facing Manchester United, Everton, and West Ham United. The Serbian international has featured 23 times in the Premier League for Chelsea, recording five clean sheets. However, manager Enzo Maresca has decided he is surplus to requirements and is open to letting him leave to secure more playing time elsewhere.

A smart piece of business for Bournemouth on signing Djordje Petrovic

Bournemouth’s President of Football Operations, Tiago Pinto, also weighed in on the transfer, calling it a good business for the club, especially after selling Mark Travers to Everton earlier this week. “I’m really pleased to bring Djordje to the club. The opportunity to sign a player of his calibre in the market was one we had to take, particularly given how vital the position of a goalkeeper is,"  Pinto said on the club website.

Petrovic has featured in 23 Premier League matches for Chelsea, recording five clean sheets. Last summer, he moved to France to join Strasbourg, another club under the BlueCo umbrella, where he made 31 appearances in Ligue 1. He now arrives at Bournemouth following Kepa Arrizabalaga’s return to Chelsea after his loan spell at Dean Court, with the Spanish goalkeeper subsequently signing for Arsenal.
