Cricket is likely to be included in the 2028 edition of the Olympics, which will be hosted in Los Angeles, USA. A report suggests that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) is thinking of including one of the most popular sports in the biggest global sporting tournament from 2028. The final decision will be announced on October 15 or 16, while the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 will be played in India.

As per a report by the Indian Express, one of the meetings of the IOC will be held in this week, where board members will have a discussion over all the sports to be included in the 2028 Olympics. The meeting will be followed by another meet up on September 8 in Lausanne City, Switzerland.

However, the report further suggests that the final call be taken on October 15-16 in Mumbai, where more than 100 members of the IOC will cast their votes. While there are other games such as kickboxing, flag football, baseball-softball, etc., in contention, cricket is among the top choices that can be included in the upcoming edition.

According to IOC's senior member, Michael Payne, since several firms have been investing in the sport, cricket holds a lot of potential to be included. Notably, the game was last played in 1900, where the gold medal match took place between Britain and France.
