On Friday, April 25, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by five wickets, to register a comeback win in the match 43 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. After four-wicket haul from Harshal Patel, a 34-ball 44 from Ishan Kishan and unbeaten knocks from Kamindu Mendis and Nitish K Reddy, SRH chased the 155-run target with eight balls to spare.

For the unversed, the captain of SRH, Pat Cummins, won the toss and decided to bowl first, and his decision prove to pay dividends on a pitch assisting the fast bowlers early on. Mohammed Shami gave SRH their first breakthrough, dismissing Shaik Rasheed on the very first ball of the first inning. Although, Ayush Mhatre looked good, scoring a 19-ball 30, he was dismissed by Cummins, leaving the CSK scorecard reading 47/3 in 5.3 overs.

However, wickets kept falling at regular intervals for CSK, Dewald Brevis played a fighting knock of 25-ball 42 in his debut match for the Yellow Army. However, the side was restricted for 154/10 in 19.5 overs, courtesy a four-wicket haul from Harshal Patel. Apart from him, Pat Cummins and Jaydev Unadkat picked two wickets apiece, Md Shami and Kamindu Mendia got one each in their bag.

SRH replaces RR at eighth place in IPL 2025 standings; CSK continue to reel at bottom spot

In the run chase, SRH’s star player, Abhishek Sharma departed for a two-ball duck, Travis Head, who came out as an impact player, also was dismissed after just scoring 19 off 16. Ishan Kishan looked good for the visitors, as he played a 34-ball 44-run knock, his stay was cut short by Noor Ahmad, with Sam Curran completing a comfortable catch.

Wicketkeeper-batter Heinrich Klaasen also could not make much of an impact with the bat as he was dismissed for seven runs, Aniket Verma added 19 runs. Thereafter, Kamindu Mendis (32* off 22) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (19* off 13) stitched an unbeatedn stand for the sixth wicket to help SRH chase the target in 18.4 overs. For the hosts, Noor Ahmed picked two wickets, whereas Khaleel Ahmed, Anshul Kamboj, and Ravindra Jadeja picked a wicket each.

With this win, SRH displaced Rajasthan Royals at eighth position with a five-wicket win, CSK continue to reel at the bottom-most spot with seven defeats from nine matches.
