Brazilian footballer Dani Alves was released from prison after he made the payment of 1 million euro ($1.2 million) after a rape conviction. Alves also handed over his passports, with prosecutors having argued against his release due to the possibility of a flight risk. The 40-year-old former Barcelona player was found guilty of sexually abusing a woman in a nightclub in December 2022 and was sentenced to four years and six months in prison. The former footballer then denied the wrongdoing during the three-day trial.
Alves spent the last 14 months in Brians II prison near Barcelona after he was detained for a rape accusation. The former footballer left the courthouse in jeans and a black jacket over a white shirt, and for now, he is not allowed to leave Spain and contact the victim.
Memphis Depay paid 1 million euro to bail out Dani Alves: Reports
Memphis Depay , Alves’ former Barcelona teammate, has reportedly paid the sum of 1 million euro to bail him out after convicted of rape. Notably, Depay and Alves played a total of 12 matches together during the 2021-22 season across different tournaments. According to reports by ESPN, the Brazilian footballer was finding it difficult to collect the huge sum needed for his bail. With Neymar’s father having refused his bail, Alves considered selling some of his assets.
However, the latest and exclusive report from Mabkhout Almarri suggested that Depay emerged as a beacon of light for Alves and granted the sum for his bail. He wrote on X, “Exclusive: Memphis Depay is the one who paid one million euros in bail for Dani Alves and was released from prison today. It is not rumored that Neymar was the one who paid, but rather that he and his father evaded paying.”
