The craze of franchise cricket across the globe is indeed on an all-time high. With IPL, PSL, BBL, The Hundred and so many different leagues, the sport is growing rapidly and fans have shown positive responses to all these tournaments. Now, another similar event - UAE T20 League - is set for its inaugural season this year (in June-July) and the list of owners it has got on board is actually fantastic.
Mukesh Ambani (Reliance), Shah Rukh Khan (Kolkata Knight Riders) and the Glazer Family (Manchester United) have reportedly bought the teams and another big name has now joined the illustrious list of franchise owners.
Another IPL team ownership enters UAE
GMR Group, owners of Delhi Capitals, have notably acquired a franchise in UAE T20 League. “Indian-based infrastructure powerhouse, GMR Group has acquired the rights to own and operate Dubai franchise in the UAE T20 League to be held in UAE,” the ECB said in an official statement.
It is indeed a big move as the owners of DC will also bring along with them the fans of the franchise, which will certainly increase the buzz and preparations around the UAE T20 League.
Kiran Kumar Grandhi, Corporate Chairman at GMR Group, said, "UAE has a world-class niche of cross-cultural individuals with a big cricket fan following and excellent cricket infrastructure. We, at GMR Group based on our years of experience in the IPL will harness to create a thriving cricket environment for budding players which will infinitely excite cricket aficionados."

Apart from them, Gautam Adani (Adani Group) and Rajesh Sharma (Dubai-based Industrialist) are reported to be the other two owners in what is going to be a 6-team tournament. With the franchise owners on board, the names of the franchises and other details are expected to be revealed very soon.
