The Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) have been handed a massive setback as they will miss the services of Karnataka batter Devdutt Padikkal. The red and gold franchise, who are currently placed second in the IPL 2025 standings, will miss Padikkal, who incurred a hamstring injury.
It is to be noted that Padikkal proved to be a key batter in the RCB lineup, amassing 247 runs in the 10 games, at a strike rate of 150.61. Seeing him get some runs for the Bengaluru-based franchise, Padikkal was promoted to number three, where he hit two half-centuries.
RCB rope on local boy Mayank Agarwal as Devdutt Padikkal’s replacement
With Padikkal set to miss the remainder of the season, RCB have roped in Mayank Agarwal, who went unsold at the mega auction in November 2024. The local boy has been signed for a sum of INR 1 Crore. It is to be noted that Agarwal boasts of a rich experience in the IPL, having played 127 matches, where he has scored a century and 13 fifty-plus scores.
Speaking of the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, they are placed second in the IPL standings with 16 points. In the 11 games so far, RCB has registered wins in eight, whereas they have lost three of them. They will next take on Lucknow Super Giants in match number 59 in the IPL 2025 on Friday, May 9.
